How to stay wonderful as a Creative person

I feel at times we can forget to be a wonderful person as a creative individual. Also we can be our own worse person which will lead to us being a cruel to others. I like to think of myself as a person that will not let my mentality be towards others nothing more than positive.

Of course at times we can let our emotions get the best of us. But we have to stop and reflect and correct on our mistakes. Even though it may be difficult to do so we have to do it anyways. As well as  taking full responsibility for it.

Staying wonderful as a creative person is a way for us to look at the world different. When we look at the world different it allows us to be an influence on the people around us. But make sure the type of influence you are is a positive one on people.

How to stay wonderful as a creative person

  1. Be kind to those you meet
  2. Realize that you are wonderful
  3. Do not belittle those who create work that is not up to your standards
  4. Empower those who you enjoy being around
  5. never think you are above everyone else
  6. Always be willing to share what you know

There are times when we meet a creative person and they are just disgusting make sure to not be one of those people.

Learning New Techniques to help improve design work

If you have not been following me on instagram I have been learning calligraphy for over 2+ years. I also have done custom logos for various clients. The things that I learned in school I realized that they were good for the time I was in school.  Because there becomes a time when you should have left it behind and found a better technique.

An amazing technique I learned was how to properly use anchor points to vectorize lettering. Before I would plot anchor points and it would take me forever. But thankfully I found a video on youtube explaining how to properly use them. I must say after I was just sitting there thinking wow so this is how its done.

Because it was a technique that I was comfortable doing and one that I had learned awhile ago. Compared to the new one that I learned was as if  light bulb turned on in my head. I must say I came across this video which was perfect timing. Especially since I have been learning calligraphy for so long.

This is my first attempt at using this technique. I was blown away by how much quicker it was for me to do this compared to the way before I would’ve went about doing this.

Dealing with Dark times as a creative person

There are many times as a creative person we deal with many dark thoughts are or many different things. But you know that is normal for anyone to deal with. Not everyone on this earth is an angel or thinks positive 24/7.

The times that everything seems to be going wrong for you stop and reflect on the times that were good. Remember what you were doing before hand and get back to doing that. I recently had realized that there were many things that I had started being lazy with. Then I started to get frustrated and depressed a bit.

But I know that before when I was doing certain things such as promoting my calligraphy work, recording multiple videos for my youtube channel and uploading them how much fun I was having. So I decided you know what there is no excuse and that I needed to stop wasting so much time on things. A good example is apps and how you can get so lost in them. You could spend hours doing nothing on them.

Then after you close the app you would say to yourself what did I accomplish from all of the time I spent in it. I said that to myself time and time again. I am NOT saying apps are bad you just should not be spending all day in them if you know you have things you should be doing.

Do not be scared of the dark times when they come. Because they will come no matter how hard you try to avoid them. The main thing to remember it is how you deal with them. You can either let the darkness of times beat you into an oblivion and make you quit or you can fight back.

How develop your style from the past, present and future

Developing ones style is sometimes a difficult thing. The reason being is because a lot of people just start out copying one another. Well let me be the first to say copying is something that we all do. Copying is a way of studying. But you should never try to pass someones work as your own.

Because the reason you do not want to pass the work of someone else as your own is because it will discredit you immediately. You will have the label that you are a copycat. Trust me you do not want to ruin your reputation as a designer or whatever profession you are in.

So the first thing you should do is learn the history. When I started learning graphic design and going to school for it I learned a bit here and there. But it was me who took it upon myself to learn what has happened before. Then I learned the different styles of graphic design. Because every place in the world the design work has a certain aesthetic to it that makes it unique.

A lot of designers are influenced by the swiss design principles. Because the swiss design principles are what is very attractive. By attractive I mean simple and easy to understand from my point of view. For others it may be completely different. Which is good to be able to understand what works and what does not.

Just because a style of work looks cool to you there is not a reason for you to start doing it in everything.  You have to realize that just  because it looks cool to you that does not mean it will work for everything. Because a lot of designers fall into this trap.

So after learning about the past you want to learn about the present. By the present I mean you want to take time to learn about what is going on now. By learning what is currently happening you will be more in the now. Being in the now you will not get left behind and have a more familiar vision of how the industry is evolving and growing.

Learning about the future well there is not a way to do such a thing. By that I mean there is no better way to draw style from the future other than to develop your own style after learning from the past present and the now. Because with all this said your work should reflect the thoughts that you put down with your pencil or whatever tool and or tools you use to do your work.

 

Why I stopped Caring about Followers and Focused more on the content

We all know those who want to be seen as famous or popular with tons of followers on their social media accounts. The impression that I get is that the people are forgetting the content is whats most important. Also I also like to have the correct mindset and let the people know I appreciate them for taking the time to follow me and etc.

One thing I like to do is surprise them by checking out what it is that they are doing. This is as if I am connecting with them on a more personal basis. I also do not like to follow people just for no reason. The misconception about it being a numbers game is very wrong. Well lets get this straight there are people behind those screens (not unless you buy your followers or just do follow 4 follow).

When I stopped caring about how many followers I have I feel my work and approach improved to connecting with people. Because the connecting is whats most important. I also took the approach about putting out better work each time. At times  feel when I post something “what the hell was I thinking posting that?” then I say “I could’ve put more time into it”.

The reason is I do not want to waste anyone’s time who decided to hit the follow button. Because I made the dedication to go above and beyond what other people who use social media do. A lot of people just get followers and only post things about themselves and never reply or converse with those who they follow and etc.

When your following starts to grow it can be a little overwhelming as if you’ve got to be someone who you were not previous. By that I mean you feel you have a standard you have to live up to. Well first off you should remain the same way that you have been. Just that over time you have to continue to improve. Because we all want to improve to get better and better. When we notice that we are improving its all worth it.

So stop focusing on getting so many followers. The way that you get followers is by posting regularly, connecting with people in your profession and talking with them. Then its really just keeping up when no one is watching or you’re not getting likes or subscribers. You have to learn what you have to do and put in the work. Nothing is going to happen overnight so if you think its going to be overnight you’re in the wrong game.

Why Pemanship matters and you should improve your handwriting

Penmanship matters more than ever now. Whether or not you think what does it matter everything is digital now. How would you look being an adult and having the handwriting of a child. Then if you have a situation where you do not have an electronic device to write you will be shit out of luck.

Which means you will struggle writing and holding a pen correctly. Also someones handwriting can say things about them without speaking. Honestly if I wrote my name and it looked as if I wrote it with my knuckles you’d wonder about me. Then you would question my intelligence and other things about me.

I remember when teachers gave lessons on practicing handwriting. The lessons for homework were in cursive. Writing in cursive is such a relaxing and enjoyable thing. Writing in cursive allows you write faster and develop better control with writing instruments.

Having beautiful penmanship will show in your signature and apply in other areas of your life. One thing that is disappointing is when you see someone who is not capable of signing their name and instead they only know how to print their name. Penmanship matters because it shows someone that you care. Also it shows you have took the time to improve the little things in your life.
