Why your agency is making the mistake by not hiring a Junior designer

The reason why your agency is making the mistake not hiring a junior graphic designer is because you are missing out being able to mold someone into a better designer. Don’t get me wrong I know that not everyone is capable of being taught things. The ego’s that we have as humans can affect us. There are somethings that agencies miss out on time and time again.

I for one know that I am more than willing to do whatever it takes to be the best designer possible no matter how hard the work is I’m willing to get it done. Also I know that are other graphic designers out there who are just as willing or even more willing than I am. Just think for a second how many times you are missing that talent by brushing them off and sending the automated email of you did not meet the qualifications and never explaining why they were not qualified.

The studio and or agency that you have can use new life into it. Because I’m sure you’ve had graphic designers that have been at the company for a very long time who are just going through the motions of the job. The main reason why you may not hire just any graphic designer is because you are scared. Or you could say there’s no reason for me to take time to get someone up to speed with the company and spend the time nor money.

Junior Graphic designers have heart and are more than willing to join your studio/agency. The new life that your agency will have hiring new designers will be worth it. But do not get me wrong I know that there are going to be crappy designers/ special. You just have to think long term and not short term.

Because if you are not thinking long term in regards to the life of your agency/ studio I am pretty sure the well which you pull from will dry up. Then results will show further down the line. So why would you not want to have fresh talent in your organization?

Inge Druckrey: Teaching to See

I’ll have to say this is one of the most refreshing documentaries that I have watched in awhile. I really enjoyed Inge’s approach to teaching. Just think of how amazing it is when you have a great teacher that is willing to expand your mind to think about things differently and in a wide open way.

Dealing with Depression as a creative Person

Depression is something that a lot of us experience. I am not going to pretend as if I do not experience the symptoms of what depression is. You have to be more in control of your feelings and how to not let them determine what your results will be. Especially when you are doing things and not seeing many results if any.

Which can lead to feeling as if “why are good things not happening to me?” Then you begin to question other things in your life. Which then would lead to even more feelings of depression. You have to not let your feelings determine how you will end up. Develop more control over your mind and emotions.

You have to remember that there is no need for you to be so hard and down on yourself. Our brain can either be our destroyer or our best companion. One thing I learned from Listening to David Foster wallace was that when people commit suicide more or less they shoot themselves in the head.

So just take time to think how much your life would change if you stopped feeling sorry for yourself and fought through the depression and go to work. Whenever I experience feelings of depression coming into my mind I get to work. If i’m just sitting around wasting time I make sure I am learning something or doing whatever I can to improve my skills and move closer to my ultimate goals.

Remember  when you feel as no one supports you or they do not understand they are not meant to understand. You don’t need to quit or give up. Prove to yourself that you are  capable as a designer, artist or business person to do whatever you set out to do. But be honest with yourself and realize that its going to take hard work and its not going to be easy.

How to stay wonderful as a Creative person

I feel at times we can forget to be a wonderful person as a creative individual. Also we can be our own worse person which will lead to us being a cruel to others. I like to think of myself as a person that will not let my mentality be towards others nothing more than positive.

Of course at times we can let our emotions get the best of us. But we have to stop and reflect and correct on our mistakes. Even though it may be difficult to do so we have to do it anyways. As well as  taking full responsibility for it.

Staying wonderful as a creative person is a way for us to look at the world different. When we look at the world different it allows us to be an influence on the people around us. But make sure the type of influence you are is a positive one on people.

How to stay wonderful as a creative person

  1. Be kind to those you meet
  2. Realize that you are wonderful
  3. Do not belittle those who create work that is not up to your standards
  4. Empower those who you enjoy being around
  5. never think you are above everyone else
  6. Always be willing to share what you know

There are times when we meet a creative person and they are just disgusting make sure to not be one of those people.

Pilot Parallel Pen Review

One of the very early calligraphy tools that I purchased was the pilot parallel pens you see in this video. The parallel pens are used to do gothic and italic calligraphy. I had became more interested in gothic and italic calligraphy than copperplate to be exact.

The Pilot parallel pens are great and very useful. I love the ease of changing the cartridges and how they function.

Believe in yourself and Your Design work

When we you start out in anything you have to believe in yourself. I experience this time and time again that believing in yourself and work is key. As a creative person we can doubt our work like no one else can. We tend to fall into the same habits of doing what is easy.

The way that I have gain belief in my work is to trust myself. I trust myself and the process that I go through completion of the work. I had learned that as long as the work is 95% complete in regards to my terms it will be just right. The 95% completion of the work will be as close as it can get to 100%.

I say that because there is nothing out there that is 100% complete. The reason is because there is always something that can be improved or has room for improvement. Being self aware of this is allowed me to develop a stronger belief in my work and myself.

Family, friends, coworkers and whomever do not have to believe in your work. The reason I say that is because its your work! No one has to do anything for you your life is your life. If your clients do not like your work then it could be, a number of things.

With all of this sad believe in yourself even when no one does. If you are not getting clients or making sales of your artwork keep at it. The amount of information out there is endless on you becoming better than you already are. When you start improving and getting better you will learn how much of an impact it can be on you.

The Story of Blackletter

I was first introduced to this video by a skilshare class that I took on calligraphy. The video taught me a lot about the history of black letter. Also that reading black letter is a lot easier than normal text.  I really have been enjoying learning the history of callligraphy.

The reason is because I have been teaching myself calligraphy for so long it seems that the more I learn the more I enjoy it. The same can be said for me when it comes to graphic design.
