How to develop a Tyler Durden mentality

I am sure many of you may have seen this quote or even seen the movie fight club. The movie is amazing if you have not watched it yet. The gems that are throughout the movie. But I want to speak today on two things. One is developing the mentality that Tyler Durden has and also to not be owned by the things you own.

The mentality that Tyler has from the perspective I perceived is to just let go. By letting go you do not let the thought of if something good or bad happened. Therefore you are prepared for either or. As humans and whatever profession we are in we try to control as much as we can. Being a designer you try to control as many things as possible, from the client work, how much we charge and etc.

The type of tools that we own can end up owning us. Many get fooled thinking that the tools make that big of a difference. Learning how to use the tools is what matters. If you are one whom starts out a new hobby or profession and immediately buys the best tools possibly why would you do that? Because eventually you’ll feel as if you’ve wasted money. The feeling of having wasted money on a hobby profession is not a nice thing to experience. So remember start with the basics and then move on to better tools. Therefore you will be even more skilled with better materials.

Wasted Talent

If you have ever been told that you have a talent for something then why did you not pursue it. But a thing to remember about having talent is that it will fail you if you are not skilled.

Do your best to not waste your talent especially if its something that you enjoy doing. We are so inclined to do what people tell us to do and the advice is actually not healthy. Just think for a bit of those whom missed out on facebook because their parents told them to not get involved. If they would’ve just took a chance. I’m pretty sure they possessed the skills to be successful with many things.

I’m sure this is not something for everything to do. Some of you may say yes I have the talent but I have bills too pay. You may say I’ve failed so many times or there’s nothing out there for me. Believe me I was one of those people. Having that sort of mentality can burn you out and not make you want to continue improving your talent and skills.

So therefore do your best to keep focused and dedicated to improving your talent and skills. Its not supposed to easy buts its going to be worth it as long as you can hang in there.

Don’t forget

The worst thing in the world is wasted talent.

How to change the world with your work.

I constantly make sure that whatever I am doing I put myself into the work. By doing this I feel you put out better quality work. This also could be another way to describe having passion for what you do. The work ethic and belief that you have will depend a lot upon yourself. Then also it will depend how much and how hard you are willing to go farther than the other person.

So start putting yourself into your work and then you will start to see changes in you and the world around you.

Stretch your mind

This has been a thing that I work on continuously. Stretching your mind to the limit requires quite a lot of getting out of your shell. By that I mean it requires you to develop your own system of thinking. This means the things you learned as a child develop what your own thought patterns.

Stretching your mind is possible if you believe it is. Everyday you should be learning. By learning I don’t necessarily mean learn by reading a book. Because reading a book you will only get a certain amount of knowledge and a certain type. Fore example if you read garbage then what you expect your mentality to be like.

Take this for instance if you learn something new everyday that you did not before how much knowledge do you think you’d have then? You can do this immediately and I am not kidding. But you cannot get caught in the clouds by people lying to you. Do your best to not let that happen.

There’s tons of people who just do what they can to get by. Those are the people whom don’t set goals, just do what the job requires and they don’t really feel as if they don’t deserve more. You could be currently without clients and feel like you are never going to get any and or that you have to sell yourself short. Stop right there you are valuable. Your skills are valuable. But be honest with yourself about your worth. Don’t try to be a CEO and your really just a manager.

Keep learning and never settle with what you are just told to believe. Seek the truth and knowledge. Because at this moment you are not complete with anything. There is always room to learn, improve and achieve more. The last thing I’m going to ask you are you going to stretch your mind?

Carpe Diem

This was the first time I seen where this quote had came from was when I was watching Dead Poets Society. The speech that Robin Williams gave still resonates with me to this day. The honesty and truth behind it is like no other. I wanted to take time and dedicate a calligraphy piece to Robin Williams. Because he touched my life like no other with his movies. Just thinking of how many times I watched Jumanji or Ms doubtfire to name a few makes me smile.

Here’s a beautiful tribute video of a Robin Williams speech. You remember that if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to contact me anyway you feel like it and I’ll give you the time. Not to end this on a sad note lets remember Robin for the beautiful movies and laughs he gave all of us.

Beauty is embarrassing

I must say after watching this documentary Wayne White definitely inspired me. I feel I learned a lot more about taking the opportunities that you are given. Also the effects of trying to Mr big shot and think you can do so much work alone.  I recommend giving this a watch. It will teach you the importance of many things in life.

Jobs don’t have futures people do

We get so caught up in our job and then we tend to believe that it will lead us to our future. When actuality that is the not the truth. We think time and time again our job is our future. Well more or less that used to be the case with a lot of people.

But now times are different we as a world are smarter and have more access to each other than before. You create your future whether you believe it or not. Of course society tends to put upon us to do the norm which is go to school and then college, get into debt with student loans find a job and pay them back (hopefully) and well you know the rest.

Do your best to follow your heart and not let others silence you and crush your dreams. Whether you believe it or not you are capable as much as you believe you are. When you feel like giving up keep your believe in yourself to do whatever it takes to get to where you can see yourself.

Remember you get what you expect out of your life and what you deserve
