How I deal with horrible clients

Mad People!

Many of us no matter what profession we have dealt with horrible clients. Some people talk a big game and act as if they are serious and then just quit. I’ll admit when things like that happens it can be devastating to our motivation. It could also make you feel as if your not good enough for the client.

But you have to remember that there are plenty of clients out there who would actually appreciate a designer who is willing to help them and be honest. Do you best to not get treated like a door mat. Because if you let a client feel as if you need them more then they you need you they’ll take advantage of that.

There also will be times when you will have to fire a client. It may be something that you could not see yourself doing at the moment. But think of it this way would you want to keep communicating with someone who is not taking the Job serious.

So here’s how I dealt with the bad clients that I have had

  1. Communciation: if they are not taking the time to respond quickly within a day or so they will waste your time
  2. If you present a contract and they hesitate signing it they are most likely not committed to it.
  3. Listen to yourself if a Job does not feel right do not take it or pass it off to someone else
  4. Treat your clients good regardless whether good or bad
  5. Remember to be honest with them (it will save a lot of time)

That’s just a few things that I use in my dealing with bad clients. I’m pretty sure there’s more to it then just 5 things.

What are some things that you do when dealing with bad clients?

Forget What they Teach you

This may be an odd thing for some to grasp. When I say forget what they teach you I mean use what they have taught you and develop your own way of working. Because if you just do what you were taught in school your work will be stagnated and dull. Well it may not be for a little while. But you have to think how fast our world is changing.

Because you have to realize that what you learn while in school may or may not work in the real world. Within a classroom we are sheltered and somewhat protected. Then when we enter the real world we get hurt when we get clobbered by those more experienced then us.

Whenever you are designing, illustrating or whatever do not use the internet for inspiration and see what you come up with. For example instead of searching behance or pinterest take a walk through your house or even your backyard. Because

Rivers and Tides -Full- Andy Goldsworthy Documentary

One of the most compelling documentaries that I have every watched. Knowing that he using nature to make art was mind boggling to me. Then another thing was the amount of time that he puts into a project is very impressive. His art somewhat reminded me of how graffiti writers do their art and take a photo if they want and then leave it. This documentary is definitely worth watching all the way through if you are needing inspiration.

My Thoughts On UX Design

When I was working on the app design that I created recently I understood UX and UI design a bit more. I feel that it taught me how important to every single detail is. When I started I honestly had no idea what I was doing. Now lets continue on with my overall experience from beginning to end.

Initially with the app design I had wanted to make it functional and make it into a business. The app would be for people who are wanting to be notified of when a blog or website is updated. To notify people of when their site would be updated was by a simple color system.

After I got the logo finalized that helped make everything flow better. I had to think about the color scheme to go with the logo and I tied it into the logo using the colors from a swan.

Then figuring out how the system is going to work that was another thing to figure out. Within the system you had to figure out what icons are you going to use.

But overall to sum it up if you want to really to improve your attention to detail designing an app will help. I definitely would not mind to design another app and that would go live and within a team setting.

Fundamentals of Good UI Design

This is some great advice for UI design. With app design I learned that it is all about the details. Because you have to take into account how someone is going to use every single aspect of the app. The interviewee just cuts right through the crap and tells it like it is regarding UI design. I recently completed the app design I was working on check it out here
