Process Video of working on a calligraphy piece

Above his a reverse process video I shot while working on the piece below. I plan to do more of these while working on calligraphy work and etc. Just have to purchase a tripod first to have the video a bit cleaner and what not.

I am really happy how this piece turned out. The quote is lyrics from theweeknd and the reason I chose to do it was to continue expanding with other words instead of the same thing over and over (positivity quotes). Because I want to let everyone enjoy my calligraphy work.

Have a great weekend everyone.

you are not your likes

In the time of social media sites we tend to value likes more than they actually are worth. Remember to put out work that you like and care less about the likes. If someone likes your work then good and if they don’t oh well. Just do not let it discourage you.

Santa Cruz Skateboard company

Santacruzlogo

For this project it was self initiated project. I decided to use a custom logo type for branding. Therefore I felt with the creativeness and freedom that skateboarding has it was a strong approach to take.

Goals: To use a hand lettered logotype that can be used on multiple applications.

Solution: Use of a well structured/free flowing typeface that embodies the creativity and freedom of skateboarding.

Focus on creating your own visual style

When you stop focusing on copying a style you seen from someone you will develop your own. Also when you develop your own people will be able to say oh I know that is from so and so. There are other people whom you will not know because they hid it so well. So being versatile is pretty good. Because if you designed everything that looked the same then your work would be just filled with the same thing just different colors and fonts.

Just think for a second of two people who have a piece of sheet of plywood. One will walk on it and the other may prop it up against someone and walk up it or cut it in half and make it as a ramp. The point I am trying to get across is that you have the same tools as anyone else. The real thing is what you do with them.

It is a very rare thing that we come up with the same style. Even though a lot of things are just remixes. Do not let that discourage you at all. Keep moving forward and developing your visual style. Change your setting and approach to see what could happen differently than before.

Have a great weekend everyone

If you chose not to decide

Remember this and keep it in your thoughts. Do your best to not be afraid of making a choice. Because its so easy to fall into the habit of hoping for a better day and etc. More so hoping for your problems to go away. Which we both know that is not going to happen. Face your problems or whatever your going through head on and you’ll be glad you did in the end.

How to deal with emails properly as a designer

Dealing with emails can be a pain in the ass at times. The reason being is because they can tend to pile up and we will forget about them. I for one only check my email once in the more and once in the afternoon. Recently I had to restrain myself from checking emails when I was out eating with family.

But let me stay on topic with this post. There are various types of emails that you will get. Of course you’ll get the ones you’d signed up for. Then you’ll get those from various people who are in your industry that happen to come across your site. At times you’ll get those who think you don’t know much.

When really they are just trying so hard to sell you something. You and me both know that’s not the right way to do business or gain interest. More or less it makes it seem invasive and as if they don’t really care much about you. By them pretending to be bigger than they are displaces credibility. Never will I ever act as if I am greater than I am currently.

So here are the tips to deal with emails properly

  1. Do not waste time with worthless emails
  2. Decide whether or not its worth replying to
  3. If you are suspicious google the persons name
  4. Only check your emails twice a day unless you constantly need to (your emails are not going to magically dissappear)
  5. Unsubscribe from the crap you no longer care to read
  6. Beware of those who try to sell you a product that are in your industry and they talk a good talk but it does not add up.

Why you’ll never hit the Jackpot

This quote is one I heard recently from Toben Wigwe. The quote immediately hit me right in the heart. Because I was just thinking to myself how very honest this is. Many of us try to get somewhere with wanting to invest in learning, hustling, grinding to get there.

Because you will not get anything without working for it. Well if you do get it without working for it sooner or later it will go away. The reason is because you have not developed the skills to maintain that which you have. A great example is the whole stipulation of redistributing wealth.

Redistributing wealth will not work and that is because a vast amount of people lack the financial knowledge to maintain that certain kind of wealth. I’m more so reflecting upon the whole process of learning about more than just the surface. Don’t think automatically you’ll be one of the best or it will happen over night. Because when it does happen people will think it was an overnight success when you and me both know we have been working day after day to get where we are.
