Apple Product Design

If you have no clue who Jonathan Ive is or Jony Ive as some people call him he is responsible for how the apple products are designed and how they look. When I listened to the Steve Jobs Biography audiobook I learned that Jony Ive is just as much of a design nut as Steve Jobs was. If you have or if you’ve ever held an iPhone 4 you’d notice the little gaps on the side of the phone. The reason for that is because of the antenna and if its covered you can expect to have dropped calls and etc. The iPhone 3 would drop calls constantly because it did not have the gaps the 4 does.

Whats your favorite apple product or Who’s your favorite product designer?

Wim Crouwel’s advice for young designers

Me being a young designer I still come back and watch this video. I first heard about wim crouwel when I watched the helvetica documentary. Being able to find my own way as a designer has been a journey and something I still am doing. I did not understand the whole process of finding your own way and style in design that symbolized me. Which has been going a lot better recently taking a financial break from college.

What is some good advice that you’ve received as a designer?

Erik Spiekermann – Extra Interview

When I first seen this video I was blown away when he said that he will not read anything unless he’s identified the typeface. It really opened my eyes up to how serious people take design. When he talked about how people are not supposed to know something has changed its just gotten better. Then when he talked about arial was great and it was a little history lesson as well.

Helvetica Documentary

There have been countless number of times I have watched this documentary. The first time I watched it I really had no idea that helvetica was such a widely used typeface. The more I started to get into typography as of watching this I started to study fonts and learn more about them as a whole. Now I rarely if ever use helvetica in any of my work, I believe that frutiger is a more cleaner and well crafted font, Also Nue Haas Grotesk is overall more pleasant to look at to my eyes at least.

Whats your favorite typeface?

Steve Jobs on Failure

I’ll admit when I had a pc I did not understand what was so good about an apple product. After listening to the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson I had more respect for Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

In this video Steve Jobs clearly states the difference between those who want to succeed and those who do not. Me being a young designer I always ask for help whenever I feel there is something I do not know. Many people will help just some people will just talk about wanting to do a thing and others will actually do it.
