I’m not sure if you all remember when tropicana decided to change the packaging for their orange juice which ended up being a disaster. The guy Peter Arnell had a great vision for it from watching this video. But honestly why would you change tropicana packaging design? Land O lakes never changed their butter packaging.
Sally Draper : When I think about forever, I get upset. Like the Land o’ Lakes butter has that Indian girl… Sitting, holding a box. And it has a picture of her on it, holding a box. With a picture of her on it, holding a box. Have you ever noticed that?
Heres what the tropicana package design looked like for years and what it looked like after
I honestly believe that the Obama branding is one of the best I have seen for a presidential candidate ever. What president has had such an impact with a logo that has become so well known by itself? I feel the presidential branding will steadily improve over the years depending on who does the branding for them.
This is a great video showing the history of the legendary design agency pentagram. Paula Scher is doing the voice over and Hillman Curtis created the video.
This is a great way to show how Research can get in the way- Bill Bernbach
Hearing Bill say that reminds me of how Steve Jobs never relied on market research. Not relying on market research definitely allow creativity, and other avenues to be explored without feeling so limited to what you can design and produce.
Great Advice to anyone needing a direction on how to go about getting a career in the design industry. Because I personally want to live in New York and be a designer for a couple of years and then move to london and be a designer there for awhile. I am personally fascinated by the different ways of thinking and approaches to design.
Whats the best advice you’ve gotten about being a designer?
I love the thought of saving non-valuable things. I have started collecting vintage advertisements that I find online from time to time. But with collecting vintage design work or whatever allows you to see how things were compared to how design is nowadays.
It’s not a font its a typeface. I will admit that I still get those confused at times but I learned a font is a family of letters and a typeface is how the font looks.
I’ve been a victim of being sucked into the spec work field. But I do it mainly so I will be able to have the experience and to add it for my resume. But I do agree that it devalues the profession of design. There are sooo many sites that have crowd sourcing for design work. Which is pretty pathetic and just another business model. But I do not have a problem helping someone out with design work as long as they we will work out a barter system that will help each other out.
I feel with the internet it can definitely have a great impact on how a design can turn out to be. Because everything is so available to be seen. I still force myself to not depend on the internet as much as I used to for inspiration when I first started designing. Because if you depend to learn how someone else has done a design how will you ever learn how to think and create your own work?
