Quick tips for the week

  1. If you are passionate about your chosen field you should know what is going on
  2. You should be learning something new about it everyday
  3. You should know who has came before you and what they have done

The Eames Lifestyle

The Charles and Ray Eames Lifestyle is one of the many that I am still in love with. One of the many things that I am influenced by is how charles and ray did not just stick with furniture design. They both branched out and did other things involving design.

Ray was a painter and Charles was an architect. Ray had said that she felt that what they were doing was still painting just another form of it. Because how quick are we to get used to doing just one type of design. Just think of how much better design would be if we experimented with web instead of graphic or video instead of web.

Remembering that everything you do whether it be work, play or anything that you do daily it is an experiment. The experiment is one that you determine how it will go. Charles and Ray experimented and did what they enjoyed and were passionate about.

If you want to live an Eames lifestyle Watch the PBS documentary The architect and the painter.

After watching the architect and the painter you will get a grasp on how they lived their lives. Minus the love affairs and etc.

Being a Designer is a lifestyle

graphic designer

Whether you are a fashion design, graphic designer, web designer and so on and so forth you look at the world differently then anyone else. When we look at what others considered to be hideous we can find beauty.  Also we can become obsessive about things regarding our chosen field.

For example when you are flipping through a magazine whether your a graphic designer or not you look at every little detail. Well I know I tend to at least. When I first started doing that it lead over into my life outside of graphic design. But I soon realized that I did that all of my life.

The way that our houses and rooms are set up are fit to our specific taste. Being a designer is more then just a Job and the type of clothes that you wear and if you drink coffee or not. We all are intertwined just from different points of view. I feel that ever since I started to learn more about other fields of design it has helped me to improve my work quality.

A key thing to remember

Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new. – Brian Tracy

Jimi Hendrix Interview – “I’m not the greatest guitar player”

I feel as if watching this short clip you can learn so much. When the interviewer says Jimi is one of the best guitar players in this studio and Jimi Said that I’m the best to sit in this chair. How many people would actually say that about themselves when they have reached that level of success.

Then when Jimi was asked do you read music and Jimi said no not at all. Something that has been passed down for generations that we need to learn how to read music if we want to play an instrument which is not entirely true. So in relation to designing constantly be on the daily grind of sketching, photographing doing something that relates to design. You have to immerse yourself into whatever it is that you want to do. When you are able to you’ll be able to talk forever about that subject.

Web 2.0 Expo NY: Gary Vaynerchuk (Wine Library), Building Personal Brand Within the Social Media Landscape

This is one of the first Gary vaynerchuk speeches that I ever seen. Gary Vaynerchuk has helped teach me how to develop a brand within social media. One of the many things that I learned from Gary is to work hard and get in the trenches.

When we start out building a brand within social media we feel as people don’t give a shit about what we are doing. Always remember to keep going no matter what and the more you care the stronger you can be.

Is it okay to be left handed?

This is a very clever commercial I came across about bullying. The way that we as a society no matter where we live tend to judge people and pick on them if just one little thing is different.

Only if there were commercials like this that ran on all children television networks.
