1) Give Away Freebies With Your Design Business’s Name and Contact Information.
Go to where your target customers hang out and set up a booth or table. Give out some freebies and a flyer or leaflet as well. Some examples of freebies include free magnets, rubber bands, rulers, note pads, etc. All of these items should have your information printed on them.

(2) Free Demonstrations of Your Services.
Go to local print shops, office supply stores, and other local stores and offer to give free demonstrations of your services. You can also offer lessons as well.

(5) Speaking Engagements.
Contact local schools and associations about classes, colleges, seminars, lectures that you can speak or teach at.

How to deal with someone ignoring your linkedin request

I’m not sure if you are on linkedin or not but I strongly recommend creating an account. Alright lets go ahead with how to deal with someone ignoring your linkedin request.

We know that you and me both probably send request to people we never met and etc. Sometimes they will accept and other times they will not. If they accept you feel proud or happy they did not ignore your request.

If they do ignore your request here’s some tips on how to deal with it

  1. If you are not comfortable sending the person a request do not
  2. If you would not pick up the phone and give the person a call do not send them a request
  3. Remember linkedin is not facebook
  4. Will the connection actually help you?
  5. What do you have to offer your connection

There’s a lot more you can learn by actually participating on linkedin and being seen. I hope these tips help you and if you have an account

You should design often

When starting out being a designer we are not told of the importance of designing often. But you may or may not have been told that you need to do it often. Many times it is easy to see in someones work quality. The same thing can be said in just about any profession.

After listening to the audiobook from Robert Greene called Mastery, I learned a lot about the discipline and dedication many people have to become masters of their craft.  One of the many amazing examples was Leonard da vinci. I was blown away when they said that Leonardo never went to art school or was ever taught about art.

I’m not sure if you have heard about the 10,000 hour rule to become a master of your craft. Instead of working for 8 hours not really getting anything done. You could dedicate at least 2 solid hours a day of working. So that means every single day of the week.

If you have something that you want to design start today doing it. You can say I don’t have time or whatever but that is the excuse that many people use. But if you start you’ll be glad you did a year from now.

Cubes: VIP Tour of Conde Nast

I really enjoy these episodes that mediabistro has put together. Conde Nast did not surprise me with having such an amazing array of offices knowing they own so many publications. The first comment on the video is hilarious btw.

Bob Marley and Money

The knowledge that Bob tells the interviewer when he’s asked about money is more then what I can say in this blog post. When I first watched this video it made me rethink how I value money and perceive such a tangible object.
