Printed calligraphy posters

I over the past week decided to print a couple versions of my calligraphy work that I done with a brush pen. The chase the vision I did that with Tombow brush pens and the wolf poster I used a pentel brush pen.  These are vectored versions of the original work.

The reason I decided to vector my calligraphy work is mainly because I just felt it was starting to go to waste and I needed to get it out there and share it. Also I will improve my photoshop/illustrator skills in the meantime.

These posters are hanging in my bedroom office to inspire and remind me to focus. Believe it or not there is a great feeling when you have your own work hanging in your office.

Austin Kleon Show your work book review

Recently I finished reading Austin Kleon’s book show your work. I must say that I was impressed by it. The way that Austin writes is so enjoyable. Also reading it does not take a long time which is great for those who like to read books quickly.

There are some things that Austin mentioned such as sharing process in your work online and also doing what I am doing now by writing this book review is a good thing to do. Sharing process allows people to understand your way of thinking and various things more than you just posting a completed project. Because its easy to just show a completed project people are more interested in how you reached the final version of your project.

Here are the 10 tips that are on the back of the book if you don’t care to read the book (which I highly recommend you do).

  1. You don’t have to be a genius
  2. Think process not product
  3. Share something small everyday
  4. Open up your cabinet of curiosities
  5. Tell good stories
  6. Teach what you know
  7. Don’t turn into human spam
  8. Learn to take a punch
  9. Sell out
  10. Stick around

At first I did research on Austins book show your work just to see what others were saying. Then I thought I may not even need to buy it because he gave these 10 tips away. Well do yourself a favor and don’t sell yourself short. Invest in yourself and get this book.

Continued movement and still going strong

One thing that I am so proud of is that I am still going strong throughout all of the trials and tribulations I’ve endured. I’m pretty sure that you’ve been through some and you may be going through them right now. Well you have to keep at it and make it through them.

Because on the other side of the situation is what we all want to have. You have to continue moving forward meaning do not give up. I’ve experienced people who were so ignorant and no supportive of my goals. Well I know that I should not expect anyone to be supportive of my goals because they are my goals.

So therefore I should not expect them to be supportive. When this is a present situation that you can see right in front of yourself do not get out of character. Just keep your head down and focus on what you set to accomplish from the beginning. You may have experienced when you are out for a jog and your body just turns on a switch where your legs are just moving with ease.

This is the same way your mind can work. Because at first when you are just starting out running it will be hard and you’ll want to quit right away. Having the Mental capacity to be able to defeat the voice in your head that tells you stop wasting energy and just sit and wish for things to get better.

Continue moving and Keep going strong.

There’s no secret but hardwork

We get so caught up in wanting things to get done quicker and to achieve things quicker. But when actually there’s no secret but hard work. Hard work is what will matter the most in the long run and allow you to achieve what is that you’ve set out to do.

I’ll admit I used to think that if you knew the algorithm to certain sites you would dominate them. Well that is not the case its promoting yourself and worker harder than the next person. A good example I will always use is how at that one point when lil wayne was everywhere.

This is how you have to realize how important hard work is. The process of creating something out of nothing just requires hard work. Whenever you start looking at yourself as someone who is capable you will be able to go further.

So stop thinking you will become a success overnight and get noticed and get to work.

Hermods Huskies

sketches

This was a project I had done for an athletics depart of a high school. The initial vision was to have a powerful, strong and rebellious logo that can be used on a variety of mediums.

Going with a modern and simplified version of a husky allows the logo to be recognizable instantly. Also I wanted to go with an inviting logo that can be used on many different types of elements.

Here is the application across stationary materials to have a visual idea about how it will look before it will be printed.

Avoid Hesitation

hesitation

Recently I’ve been practicing this even more. Because before I would take forever to make a decision on an important thing. I am setting up a bedroom office to get out of the kitchen where I do basically everything from writing, designing and etc.

My main point I want to get across with this post is to tell you if there is something you want to do or you’ve thought about go and do it. Because you will day by day began to doubt little by little if you can actually do it. When you just say fuck it and go and do it you will develop momentum.

Because if you continue to put the goal or thing you want to do off it will feed into other parts of your life.

So stop being afraid by just taking the first step towards what you want to do and you will see its not that bad as it first seemed to be.

Jacobs Garage

This was a self initiated project of a re-branding of a family own mechanic shop. I thought to myself what are some ways that I could keep the family aspect of the branding and modernize the branding a bit. The things I took into consideration were from the research I did how the logos for auto mechanics are very easy and straight to the point.

I chose to go for an oil drop since oil is one of the major things a car needs to be able to run. Therefore its the lifeblood of the car.

The main logo for Jacobs Garage

I chose to show the logo in two variations to show the depth of how the oil drop is able to work being positioned in either location.

For the uniform shirts I decided to go with the color grey because using a lighter color seemed to be a more comfortable fit. Also it would be a shirt for more than just the mechanics to wear.
