Why you’ll never hit the Jackpot

This quote is one I heard recently from Toben Wigwe. The quote immediately hit me right in the heart. Because I was just thinking to myself how very honest this is. Many of us try to get somewhere with wanting to invest in learning, hustling, grinding to get there.

Because you will not get anything without working for it. Well if you do get it without working for it sooner or later it will go away. The reason is because you have not developed the skills to maintain that which you have. A great example is the whole stipulation of redistributing wealth.

Redistributing wealth will not work and that is because a vast amount of people lack the financial knowledge to maintain that certain kind of wealth. I’m more so reflecting upon the whole process of learning about more than just the surface. Don’t think automatically you’ll be one of the best or it will happen over night. Because when it does happen people will think it was an overnight success when you and me both know we have been working day after day to get where we are.

There ain’t no shortcuts, you gotta do the work.

James Victore telling the utmost truth. Because you cannot take any shortcuts to being a good designer. The path to being a good designer is to design daily. Design daily even when you do not feel like it. Because living according to how you feel is going to really limit your growth as a professional.

The way of living according to you how you feel will limit your growth is because while you don’t feel like doing something, there is someone else who is doing the work. They are working harder then you and they want it more then you.

Stop making excuses and do the work whether its turning out crappy or not.  Because eventually it will be better over time.

Stop Looking at yourself as a designer

This is one thing that I have been applying more to my design practice. Because we both are delivering ideas to whomever we are doing a project for. Whether its for ourselves or for a client there is a process of delivering ideas. Categorizing ourselves into just the category of being a designer brings up what a person would expect.

Being a designer is the profession behind the creativity. When you know to deliver your creativity in a professional manner then you can either call yourself a designer or an artist. Really that would depend upon you and whether your work solves a problem or whether its just to look pretty.

You should design often

When starting out being a designer we are not told of the importance of designing often. But you may or may not have been told that you need to do it often. Many times it is easy to see in someones work quality. The same thing can be said in just about any profession.

After listening to the audiobook from Robert Greene called Mastery, I learned a lot about the discipline and dedication many people have to become masters of their craft.  One of the many amazing examples was Leonard da vinci. I was blown away when they said that Leonardo never went to art school or was ever taught about art.

I’m not sure if you have heard about the 10,000 hour rule to become a master of your craft. Instead of working for 8 hours not really getting anything done. You could dedicate at least 2 solid hours a day of working. So that means every single day of the week.

If you have something that you want to design start today doing it. You can say I don’t have time or whatever but that is the excuse that many people use. But if you start you’ll be glad you did a year from now.
