Landfill Harmonic- The world sends us garbage… We send back music.

This is amazing knowing that there are people who make instruments out of trash and are helping kids learn music that is great thing. I really am amazed at humans how we are able to take something that is forgotten and deemed worthless to someone and then make it worth something again.

P.S I have updated my portfolio earlier this week check it out if you have not gotten a chance and have a great weekend.

Forget What they Teach you

This may be an odd thing for some to grasp. When I say forget what they teach you I mean use what they have taught you and develop your own way of working. Because if you just do what you were taught in school your work will be stagnated and dull. Well it may not be for a little while. But you have to think how fast our world is changing.

Because you have to realize that what you learn while in school may or may not work in the real world. Within a classroom we are sheltered and somewhat protected. Then when we enter the real world we get hurt when we get clobbered by those more experienced then us.

Whenever you are designing, illustrating or whatever do not use the internet for inspiration and see what you come up with. For example instead of searching behance or pinterest take a walk through your house or even your backyard. Because

Rivers and Tides -Full- Andy Goldsworthy Documentary

One of the most compelling documentaries that I have every watched. Knowing that he using nature to make art was mind boggling to me. Then another thing was the amount of time that he puts into a project is very impressive. His art somewhat reminded me of how graffiti writers do their art and take a photo if they want and then leave it. This documentary is definitely worth watching all the way through if you are needing inspiration.

Fundamentals of Good UI Design

This is some great advice for UI design. With app design I learned that it is all about the details. Because you have to take into account how someone is going to use every single aspect of the app. The interviewee just cuts right through the crap and tells it like it is regarding UI design. I recently completed the app design I was working on check it out here

10 Tips from Print Magazine

These tips were something that said to me you need to write these down and keep them to look back on them. But anyhow here they are

  2. The sooner you realize that nobody knows what they are doing the better
  3. If its not right its wrong
  4. You think they can see through you but they can’t.
  5. Decide what you’re going to do and do it
  6. It is about who you know, but I also know a lot of idiots
  7. Make sure you look good at the airport
  8. It doesn’t matter if anybody knows that you were right all along.
  9. Don’t complain
  10. People are smart. If you keep that in mind, a lot of possibilities open up.

Have a good weekend everyone

Do you believe in yourself or not?

There are times when you feel as if nothing is going your way. Your design work is not meeting the quality that you know you can produce and your applying to design positions and you are getting no responses. The main thing to do is not give up.

Because that is honestly a situation many other designers around the world are in. You have to remember that you get out of if what you put into it. Knowing that it is one of the reasons why I design somehow every single day. I’ll admit at times it can feel as if you are getting burned out.

One thing you have to remember is that creativity is not a limited supply for anyone. The main thing it depends on your belief in yourself and if you are willing to grind it out compared to the other people out there.

Kim jung gi : Awesome demonstration of drawing!

Kim Jung Gi’s facebook pageI have not seen anything this amazing in a very long time. One of the many things that amazes me when I see an artist who starts drawing with a pen and continues without stopping or messing up. The perspectives that he uses throughout the whole entire piece is remarkable. They also said that he draws from memory which makes this even more rad.

Have a great weekend

To Go to Art School Or Not?

I used to have the mentality that going to art school was a waste of time. When actually depending on your level of skill already it may not be. The reason that I chose to go back and finish is because of what I learned from Robert Greene’s Book called Mastery.

Then you have to think about how quickly you will learn on your own compared to learning in a classroom. I’m not saying learning on your own is bad. Because I am constantly teaching myself things and learning on my own. For example being self taught in learning spanish and learning from doing so many design tutorials.

You can learn the technical side of how the programs work in school. I remember when I first started my journey into design I was more of a technical type of designer knowing how to use the programs swiftly. Then after I was told the programs will not help you design better.

I will leave you with this quote from John Cleese

Teaching creativity easy being creative is whats hard.

Learn from those who have came before you and how they developed their skills and etc.
