Rare Eames House Walkthrough

I’m still amazed by the Eames house every time I see videos,pictures of it. From the driveway up to the house it is a visual treat. It is almost as if it makes you want to keep going and to look inside. When it shows Eames Demetrios entering It shows I believe the kitchen at 2:00 in and I love the simple layout of not having a huge table there. One major thing I noticed after watching this is that it seems as if everything has a particular purpose and is carefully placed throughout the house.

I wonder how it looks now compared to this video being shot via 1997.

Font Design

I’ve suddenly seemed to take more interest in type designers. The thought that goes behind the designing of a typeface is much more then most would think. Also I didn’t know that Hoefler and Jones designed the typeface for many major magazines.

The Joys of Letterpress Printing

Watching this made me appreciate letterpress even more. Learning letterpress is something that I definitely am going to do. She has a great passion for letterpress and she even smiles when she says that she loves what she does.

How mechanical typesetting works (Intertype, Linotype, Hot Metal)

Could You imagine if we still had to rely on Linotype machines for printing? I feel that something so simple as the newspaper would be more appreciated. But we have the internet available for us wherever we go. A good educational video on the linotype machine.

David Carson – The End Of Print

This is a very interesting video I stumbled across on Youtube. I’m guessing this is an experimental video david carson made. It’s very interesting to see how the typography comes in and out of the screen. I’m not sure but it looks as if this was made before finalcut and other video editing programs were well known and made.

An interesting way to go about judging the effectiveness of an ad. I wonder what are some other techniques agencies’ use.

What I learned from my 30 day logo experiment.

When I first took upon myself that I wanted to improve my logo design skills I had no idea what to expect. My first thoughts were yea this shouldn’t be to hard to design a logo a day for 30 days straight. Well I was unaware the complexity of designing logos for various types of businesses.

Some of the many things I learned from designing a logo a day for 30 days

Is this going to be able to be used on anything besides a business card or a piece of paper? Because a logo can look good on one thing and no on another. Which was taken into great consideration when designing the logos.
Is it understandable and legible : Just because I designed it does not mean that everybody else will.
Does it convey the company’s image properly: Is the design something that you could actually see being used in a public space.
Coming up with a strong brand can be more complex then it seems to the eye
No detail is to small

These were the major things that I was asking myself after completing a logo and during the process. I’ll have to say after completing the experiment I now look at logos and everything else in extreme attention to detail.

Alex Bogusky on creating great ideas

I never would’ve thought about getting on my bike and riding it to come up with ideas. Usually when I was more frequently skateboarding I would come up with ideas non stop. Just the whole freedom of being outdoors and not sitting behind a computer screen tends to open my mind up to the endless possibilites.
